Visit Nine Museums Featuring Automobiles, Trucks, Aircraft, Military Collections, Railroads and County History.

American Heritage Village is home to two museums, The National Military History Center featuring vehicles and uniforms, and the Kruse Automotive & Carriage Museum displaying classic cars, race cars and carriages. For you aircraft enthusiasts, the Hoosier Air Museum showcases historical aircraft, both military and civilian, plus all types of aviation memorabilia. If your interest is railroading, visit the Garrett Historical Railroad Museum with it's restored B&O freight house, featuring displays dating back to the early 1800's. The Focus of the DeKalb County History Museum is its exhibits of pre-historic artifacts, early schools and libraries, urban and rural home life.

Some museums have limited or seasonal hours, contact the Visitors Bureau for information.

Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum

Auburn_CordMuseum-PassportA National Historic Landmark This automotive mecca exhibits over 120 cars ranging from 1894 to 1999 and automotive displays on three floors. The museum has the greatest and most extensive collection of Auburn Cord and Duesenberg automobile in the world. Experience the passion from this great era as you step back through time. Walk the same hallways as the automotive giants of yesterday, and you get the impression of what a day at the Auburn Automobile Company must have been like in the early 1930’s.

Hours: Daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. year round 

Admission: $10.00 adults and $6.00 students; group and family rates are available

NATMUS is housed in the former factory building of the Auburn Automobile Company. The museums emphasis is on post World War II cars, muscle cars, trucks and vehicles from 1908 “high wheelers” to current production pickups. Tour the International Gallery of Trucks and engines, plus a model car/truck and toy collection.

Hours: Daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Winter Hours: January – February Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

National Military History Center

The History Center offers a compelling “living” history, alive with the sights, sounds, and equipment that have defined America’s military encounters. The museum complex spotlights a variety of museum units and major galleries, plus over 150 World War II military vehicles and thousands of uniforms, weapons and smaller artifacts.

Hours: 9 am. To 5 p.m. daily. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day

Admission: Adults $10.00;  Seniors $8.00; Youth 7-12 yrs. old $6.00; Active Military and Service Veterans $4.00. Children 6 and under and WWII Veterans free.

Kruse Automotive & Carriage Museum

The Kruse Automotive & Carriage Museum features a variety of vehicles to entertain the whole family. All under one roof you can enjoy the classic beauty of a Duesenberg, and feel an adrenaline rush looking at the aerodynamic lines of an Indy race car. Admire the workmanship and ingenuity of antique carriages and get a close-up look at cars from your television and movie favorites. Finally, you can view one of the world’s finest collections of custom hot rods, built by Carl Casper.

Hoosier Air Museum

The Hoosier Air Museum is a showcase for historical aircraft and various types of aviation memorabilia. Committed to preserving the history of military aviation, the museum provides a facility where visitors can view historic aircraft and learn about the people who designed, built, flew and maintained them. Vintage and military aircraft include two WWI French Nieuport fighters and a Cobra Helicopter.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wed. – Sat. Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 pm. Closed December 15 to March 15.

Admission: $5.00 adults, $4.00 children, under 6 free

Garrett Historical Railroad Museum

The Garrett Railroad Museum is the former Baltimore & Ohio railroad freight station. Located along side the CSX railroad tracks, the station has been restored to reflect a typical rural railroad station of the early 1900’s. Here you will find displayed many relics, curios, photographs, and railroad items that tell the story of Garrett’s rich history. The basement of the museum houses an HO scale model railroad layout. Outside is an actual railroad post office car and a Chesapeake & Ohio caboose.

Hours: Open Memorial Day through September on Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tours by appointment.

DeKalb County History Museum

The focus of the DeKalb County History Museum is from the earliest inhabitants after the ice age through the formation of the county in 1837 into the modern era. Exhibits highlight pre-historic artifacts, early schools and libraries, clubs and organizations, businesses, plus urban and rural home life.

Andy Granatelli Museum

The museum strives to educate its visitors about racing’s past and excite them about the future glory of the sport as we annually recognize those who carry on in Andy’s innovative spirit. The facility will tell the story of the first-generation Italian American who rose to prominence in racing and put his imprint on America’s racing signature Memorial Day weekend event.

Early Ford V-8 Museum

Dedicated on September 1, 2009

This new addition to automotive history houses artifacts, memorabilia, technical displays, literature and some of the vehicles that honor the Ford Motor Company and its influence on automotive and American history during the years 1932-1953. The new museum has 8,000 sq. ft. of display area providing a rich educational experience to those who remember the vehicles of pre WWII and those who want to know more about them.

Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Groups available anytime by appointment (Special Rates Available).

Admission: Adults $5.00; Seniors $4.00; Children 7 to 12 $3.00; Children under 7 Free; Foundation Members and Spouses Free
